Hello I’m Sophie.
Needle felt artist, teacher and founder of All Things Felt & Beautiful.
It’s my life long love of splashing around in nature that currently inspires what I make. I knew from an early age exactly what I wanted to do and it took me on a university and career path in marine biology, after which I worked in wildlife conservation and education in island locations around the world.
My artistic streak comes from a life dabbling in creative activities. I’ve always have a set of paints (or three), a sketch pad and pencils close to hand for when inspiration calls.
But it wasn’t until more recently that I started to take my creative side more seriously. Especially when I was introduced to needle felting six years ago. AND. I. LOVED IT.
Making needle felt models of dogs by commission has formed the foundation my experience.
But more recently I’m exploring making pictures using wool instead of paint to create realistic and detailed images of subjects close to my heart.
As well as making for my own enjoyment and by commission, I’ve taught hundreds of students at workshops at my studio in Hatton in Warwickshire and online.
I really enjoy teaching others and helping them discover their love of needle felt. And when students return again and again I’m proud to see them develop their own style. Some have even gone on to teach and build their own businesses with my help.
I currently live in the UK on the edge of Bristol, with the city in one direction and the expanse of the Cotswold countryside to the other. It’s out in the countryside where you’ll find me at my happiest, surrounded by nature, walking in ancient woodlands, or further afield at the windswept coast - but always with my favourite walking companions, my dog Willow and partner Ben.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you. Let’s keep in touch - just sign up below.
