Everything you need to know about
ordering your portrait

Do you work from photos?

Yes. I work from one high quality digital photo that I will replicate as a portrait for you. This is a really important part of the process as it will be the image I make. The better the quality of the image the better your portrait will be.

If you are using an image from a professional photo shoot, I’ll need written permission from the photographer before proceeding. By submitting your photo you agree that you have the rights to reproduce the image in the photo.

How many photos should I take?

If it’s you taking the photo for your portrait then I suggest you take as many photos as you can at least 30-50 with a digital camera. It sounds a lot but you’ll get your perfect shot that you really love. It might be a split second to capture a look that you love. Scroll down for some great examples of portrait photos.

Tips for a good portrait photo

  1. Reserve some time for a photo session so that both you and your dog are relaxed

  2. Ideally get outside in natural light but avoid harsh sun and shadows

  3. Get down on your pets eye level and keep them close in the frame [perhaps with a favourite toy or treat in your hand to keep them interested]. No long distance or blurred shots. You’re looking for their head and chest to fill the frame.

  4. Try not to use the camera zoom feature as it can compromise quality. Instead walk towards your dog to get a closer shot

Can you include multiple pets per picture?

Yes, at my discretion if I think it will work well as a portrait. Additional dogs or pets (including toys) are priced extra and upon request. You’re welcome to email me to chat about the composition and price. Remember the more dogs and things you have in the portrait the larger your portrait will need to be.

Will My Portrait be framed?

Yes. All of the portraits are stretched onto a square canvas frame and sunk into a contemporary black floater frame that suits the style of the portrait and will look striking on any wall in your home (see photo). I even include the wall fixings so that you can hang it straight away.

You can choose alternative framing options which we can discuss.

Can I choose a different coloured background?

Yes. I have a variety of wool felt colours you can choose from for the base of your portrait. You will be sent a swatch so that you can choose the perfect colour that you love.

How long do your portraits take?

This depends on my workload at the time of ordering. But I would loosely say eight weeks. For an idea of how long or if you would like a portrait for a specific date, please get in touch as soon as possible. You can do this via my contact page.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. I have sold my work all over the world and pieces are always packaged for safe transport regardless of how far they have to travel. Shipping is calculated at a flat rate of £18.00 outside of the UK and is added at checkout.

When do I make payment?

All payment is taken before starting work and your payment secures your place on my waiting list. Please read the terms and conditions at the bottom of this webpage before purchasing.

Once you’ve paid this secures your place on my list and I’ll be in touch with everything that you need to know to proceed. This includes signing a contract before work starts.

Is there a charge for shipping?

Yes. All work is shipped with tracking and insurance via Royal Mail Special Delivery and charged additionally at £8.00. International shipping is added at checkout.

Super portraits are Free Shipping and this is refunded to you once you place your order.

Can I see my portrait before it’s shipped?

Yes. I’ll send you a final photo of your piece so you can review and make sure you are completely happy before I send it.

Is it possible to make changes once complete?

Yes. It’s possible for small areas of your portrait to be tweaked once finished and we can do this once we have emailed you the final photo. However by working closely with you so you can view your portraits progress via email, this usually eliminates the need to make changes at the very end.

Do you make animals other than dogs?

Possibly but please get in touch via my contact page before hand. I’m happy to discuss the commission of any animal portrait that you would like made, but I reserve the right to decide whether it would be a good fit for this medium or not.

Can I order prints?

Yes. You can order high quality Giclee prints in size A4 or A3 for framing yourself.

I also offer a service where you can have your portrait printed onto a large high quality canvas - this is a lovely idea for other family members to enjoy - or to have the portrait in different formats around your home.
