What you’ve started here doesn’t have to stop

Keep building your skills, grow your confidence and discover how to create wildlife portraits filled with life—one carefully guided layer at a time.

Imagine sitting down to begin a new portrait and knowing where to start.

Knowing how to shape the face, bring expression into the eyes and create fur that follows the animal’s form.

And little by little, trusting yourself enough to create portraits from the wildlife you love.

That is what we’ll work towards together inside Wild Fibres Art Club.

Begin with guidance. Grow into your own artwork.

“Looking back, I can really see how much my felting has improved.”

Diane joined over a year ago. When she compared her first portrait with her recent robin, she could see just how much her understanding and confidence had grown.

The difficult part isn’t starting—it’s knowing how to keep going

Perhaps you’ve followed a workshop and surprised yourself with what you created. But when you sit down to begin another portrait, the questions start appearing.

  • Which colours should I choose?
  • Why doesn’t that eye look quite right?
  • How do I make the fur follow the animal’s form?

When you’re learning alone, it’s easy to spend more time guessing than creating—or put a project aside when you don’t know what to do next.

That isn’t a lack of talent. Through guided projects, focused studies and thoughtful feedback, Wild Fibres helps you understand what to do and why—so your skills and confidence grow with every portrait.

The Blue Submarine to “I made that!”

“I still look at him and have to remind myself: I made that!”

“Before Wild Fibres, my entire felting experience was one bluebird kit — something my granddaughter affectionately calls ‘the Blue Submarine’. Then came my first hare. There were definitely ugly moments, but I trusted the process. I absolutely love him!

Build your skills by creating

If you’re not quite sure where to start, that’s completely normal.

The preparation workshops guide you through the tools, materials, and basics… so you can begin feeling ready, rather than overwhelmed.

And as you keep going, your confidence builds naturally, through making, not guessing.

Fit creativity into real life

Life’s busy and this is designed to fit around that.

All live lessons are recorded, so you can come back to them whenever it suits you. Whether that’s in short pockets of time, or a longer, slower session when you have the space.

Begin confidently—even if you can’t draw
You don’t need to be able to draw.
I’ll show you how to transfer your image onto fabric, and guide you through each step — so you can focus on the felting, rather than worrying about getting the outline right.

Melanie’s completed projects from her first year inside Wild Fibres Art Club

“I feel like an artist!”

“I’m proud of everything I’ve created in just one year.”

“Wild Fibres Art Club has helped me grow as a fibre artist and become more confident in my creativity. I’ve learned how to use colour, texture, shading and layering to bring wool to life, while still making each piece my own.

Every project teaches me something new, challenges me and keeps me inspired. Sophie has taught me to trust the process, experiment and, most importantly, just keep going—because somehow, it all comes together once it felts together!”

Never feel stuck on your own

There’s something very steadying about being in a space where other people are making too.

Inside the club, you can share your work, ask questions, and see how others approach things — which often helps things click in a way that working alone doesn’t.

This community is amazing! Not only did everyone send such lovely, positive comments my way, but by seeing their beautiful work I could learn how they tackled different elements.

It gave me such a helpful resource — especially for working out that tricky eye on the right of my giraffe portrait.

A massive thank you, Sophie — you make everything in this group so helpful and supportive. The tutorials are amazing, and I can’t believe I was able to do this. Thank you!

NATURE LOVER & ARTIST

Hi I’m Sophie,

your needle felting teacher

Nature has always been part of my life. From exploring woodlands and streams as a child, to studying marine biology and working in wildlife conservation.

And alongside that, art has always been there too.

For over 14 years, I’ve been teaching people how to work with wool in a way that feels calm, clear, and manageable — especially if they’re just starting out.

Because this isn’t about getting everything perfect.

It’s about understanding what you’re doing…
building confidence as you go…
and creating something that feels like your own.

And that’s what I guide you through inside Wild Fibres Art Club.

A clear path from your first portrait to artwork of your own

These stages show how your skills can grow—they aren’t a course you must complete in order. You can join us with the portrait we’re creating now, then use the Portrait Path to practise techniques, strengthen your observation and gradually develop artwork of your own.

  • Explore — Learn essential techniques through short, approachable lessons
  • Observe — Train your eye with focused studies of eyes, noses, ears and fur
  • Create — Bring those skills together in complete, step-by-step wildlife portraits
  • Evolve — Reflect on your work, receive thoughtful feedback, plan portraits, choose references and gradually develop artwork of your own.

What You Will Learn

  • Bring expression and light into an animal’s eyes
  • Shape faces using colour, tone and carefully placed layers
  • Create believable fur direction and texture
  • Choose wool colours with greater confidence
  • Trace, compose and plan a portrait
  • Correct parts that don’t look quite right
  • Work from your own wildlife references when you’re ready

From following tutorials to creating independently

“I can now look at something and think, ‘Hey, I think I can felt that.’”

“I’m learning so many new techniques and becoming more confident — I’m now working on my first portrait without a tutorial. Sophie gives you the skills to try something on your own, and you can go at your own pace.”

Kristi Rivero (Kindley)

More than a library of projects

This is what makes Wild Fibres Art Club so much more than a collection of tutorials:

  • A clear learning pathway, so you know what to practise next
  • Small technique and observation studies that build genuine skills
  • Complete step-by-step wildlife portraits where those skills come together, plus a full library of past projects to explore
  • A live wildlife portrait lesson every Wednesday, with replays available in your Membership Hub
  • Portrait Clinics and thoughtful feedback to help you understand and improve your own work
  • Guidance to choose your own references, develop your ideas and gradually find your own artistic voice
  • A welcoming community that helps creativity become a natural part of your life

When we gather

Our main 90-minute wildlife portrait lesson is live every Wednesday at 4pm UK time. We usually build one portrait gradually over 6–8 weeks, giving you time to understand each stage without rushing.

Portrait Clinics and any additional live sessions are added to the member calendar, while our private Facebook group is there between workshops for questions, sharing and encouragement.

Can’t attend live? Every workshop is recorded and added to your Membership Hub, so you can take part whenever it suits you.

What can grow when you keep creating

“I was introduced to 2D needle felting with Sophie six years ago, having never tried it before, and I’ve continued my journey with her ever since. I’ve learned to choose colours, follow a photograph, blend wool and frame my own work. Sophie is calm and encouraging, and Wild Fibres is a friendly, safe space to learn alongside other needle felters.”

Dorothy Nicolls

And that’s what I’d love for you too. Not perfection…but progress you can see. Work that feels more like your own…and something you can feel quietly proud of.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I join?
When you join, you’ll be directed to your Membership Hub — this is where all your lessons are stored, and where you’ll spend most of your time watching and working through them.
It’s simple to use, and everything is organised so you can find your way around easily.

How many portraits will I make?
Inside Wild Fibres, we focus on one portrait at a time and work on it together until it’s finished — usually over 6 to 8 weeks. This gives you the time to really understand the process and bring the piece to life, without feeling rushed.

Over a year, that usually adds up to around six or seven finished portraits.
You’ll also have access to the full library of past projects — so you can explore other pieces alongside the current one, if you’d like.

What if I join halfway through a portrait or fall behind?

You don’t need to catch up before joining. Previous lessons will be waiting in your Membership Hub, so you can join the current portrait, begin with Start Here or choose something from the project library.

There is no deadline for completing a portrait—you can work at your own pace and return to the lessons whenever you need them.

Are materials included?

Materials are not included, but you’ll receive clear guidance on what you need, along with recommended suppliers. You can also use suitable materials you already have—there’s no need to replace everything before beginning.

Is this suitable for beginners?
Yes — I teach needle felting as if it’s your first time.
So no matter when you join, you’ll be able to follow along and build your skills as you go.
Nothing is rushed, and things start to make sense through doing — not all at once.

Do I need any prior experience?
Not at all.
The preparation workshops guide you through the tools, materials, and basics — so you can begin feeling ready, rather than unsure where to start.

Do I need to be able to draw?
No — you don’t need any drawing skills.
You’ll be given a tracer image for each project, along with guidance on how to transfer it onto fabric — so you can focus on the felting itself.

Where do I watch the live workshops?
All live workshops take place inside a private Facebook group. And recordings are uploaded to a private club website after.

What if I can’t attend live?
That’s absolutely fine.
All sessions are recorded and uploaded to the group and your membership hub — so you can watch them whenever it suits you.

I’m in a different time zone — will that matter?
Not at all.
We have members from all over the world, and everything is available on replay — so you can take part in your own time.

How often are new lessons added?
There is a new 90-minute live lesson each week (which is also recorded for replay).
We work on one portrait together step by step — so you’re always building your skills as you go.

What if I’m not very tech confident?
Everything is kept as simple as possible.
And if you ever get stuck, you can ask for help — there’s always someone to guide you.

How can I connect with other members?

You’ll have access to a private Facebook group where you can share your work, ask questions, and connect with others who are learning alongside you.

How much is the membership?

You can choose:

  • Monthly membership — £16.99, charged when you join and then each month.
  • Yearly membership — £169, charged when you join and then each year. This saves £34.88—the equivalent of two months free—and includes the Dog Portrait Course.

Both options renew automatically until cancelled.
    Read Terms & Conditions here.

Is the Dog Portrait Course included?

The complete Dog Portrait Course is a new benefit I’ve brought into Wild Fibres Art Club especially for yearly members.

When you choose the yearly membership, you’ll receive access to the full course while you're a member —worth £149—at no additional cost, alongside everything else included in the club. The course is not included with monthly membership.

What if I join and it’s not for me?
If you’re unsure, the best thing to do is join for a month and have a look around.
That way you can see how it feels before committing longer term.
(Refunds aren’t offered on subscriptions.)

Can I cancel anytime?
Monthly membership can be cancelled at any time. If you choose yearly membership, you can cancel your renewal at any time so you won’t be charged for another year.

If I cancel, do I keep access?
Your membership gives you access to all lessons while you’re subscribed.
If you cancel, access to the tutorials will end.

Your next portrait starts here

You don’t need to know everything before you join or feel completely confident that you can do it.

You can begin with the portrait we’re creating now, follow each lesson at your own pace and explore the rest of the Portrait Path whenever you’re ready.

With every study, project and carefully placed layer, you’ll build more than a finished portrait. You’ll develop the skills, understanding and confidence to create wildlife artwork that feels increasingly like your own.

If you’d love to keep learning and make creativity a more regular part of your life, I’d love to welcome you into Wild Fibres Art Club.
