Needle Felting the Natural World for Complete Beginners
Needle Felting the Natural World for Complete Beginners
Hatton in Warwickshire
Perfect for beginners I’ll guide you from start to finish so you can make a wonderfully realistic needle felt picture of your favourite animal, wildflower or beautiful landscape. You’ll be amazed at how well you do.
Before you worry that you’re not good at drawing or painting let me reassure you that the step by step way I teach it, for beginners just like you, makes it easy but with incredible results that are so impressive. I’ve taught hundreds of people just like you make great artwork.
With me by your side you’ll be able to
Easily trace your picture to fabric, so even if you can’t draw your picture will look great from the start
Choose and add colours with ease - it’s as simple as painting by numbers
Master simple but striking needle felting techniques that add realism to your artwork
You’ll go home with a perfect needle felt picture, framed in a 7” hoop and ready to hang pride of place - I promise that everyone goes home smiling and super proud of their creation.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring a paper print out of your image that is no wider than about 7” (this is about an inch or two narrower than an A4 piece of paper]. You will use this print out to trace your image onto fabric to create your picture outline (I’ll show you how). This is the best option if you are not confident in drawing your picture accurately.
Or you can bring the image on your phone/tablet/laptop if you are happy to draw it free hand.
If you don’t have a printer I can print it for you and can help you with your drawing too. Don’t let this stop you having a go.
With a huge variety of colours provided for you to choose from on the day, you’ll be able to capture your image as true to life as possible down to the very last detail. I’ll be here to guide you step by step.
All other equipment's included, just bring your picture and enthusiasm and by the end of the day you’ll frame your masterpiece in an 7” wooden embroidery hoop.
WHAT TO EXPECT OF YOUR DAY
Join me in the picturesque village of Hatton where I'll be waiting to welcome you to a delightful day learning how to needle felt in the heart of rural Warwickshire. Workshops are held in a pretty all purpose craft studio nestled in a cottage garden and equipped with all the facilities you will need. It's a light and calming craft space where you can comfortably enjoy the whole day, and is a haven for you to learn in beautiful surroundings and friendly company.
Small group numbers ensure that you'll receive close guidance and personal instruction throughout the day so that you leave with the skills and confidence to continue your craft at home.
It’s a lovely way to spend the day, but don’t take my word for it, read what people have to say about workshops they have attended in my review section towards the bottom of this page.
On arrival you'll be greeted a selection of morning teas or freshly ground coffee before we get started. I provide cordials and soft drinks throughout the day with yummy snacks and fruit for if you're peckish.
You'll need to bring a packed lunch with you, which you can eat in the studio - or if it's a nice day we'll take it into the garden to eat at a picnic table. It's such a lovely spot in the summer!
Near Warwick, the village of Hatton is easily accessible with good main road links to the A46 and within easy distance of the M40, M1 and M6 There is also plenty of private parking. Alternatively the cottage is only a mile from Warwick Parkway and I can arrange for collection from the train station if you let me know in advance.
To book simply add the workshop you wish to book to your shopping basket and checkout securely. I'll then send you confirmation of your booking and directions to the studio, and nearer to the day I'll send you an itinerary of exactly what to expect.
Please have a quick look at the terms and conditions at the bottom of the page before booking.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THEIR WORKSHOP
Sophie is just the nicest, most patient and knowledge sharing tutor you could ask for. I was attracted to this course because her work is so beautiful and it really stood out to me. I have never needle felted or tried anything like it, so I never imagined I would be able to create anything to be proud of in one single lesson, but I was wrong and Sophie was right! We all left that class with pieces of art to be proud of and mine is already up on my wall.
Lovely location, lovely company, lovely treats throughout the day and a couple of doggy cuddles, what more could you ask for. Thanks Sophie, we will meet again I am sure of it!
Fantastic. I specifically wanted to learn 2D needle felting and this day was so enjoyable. Sophie was welcoming and included everyone. The venue was lovely too and an added bonus. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her courses to anyone.
I have attended 2 of the courses provided by Sophie, both have been excellent. Sophie is very skilled at making you feel at ease especially if you are new to the craft. She provides all the equipment required and gives you links to buy products to continue with needle-felting. I would have no hesitation in recommending her courses and will be attending further days in 2020.
Excellent course on 2nd felted pictures, we all came home with amazing pictures.
Sophie is a wonderful tutor, very talented and knowledgeable, she has oodles of patience and gives you the confidence to produce something you are proud of.
This was my my 2nd needle felting course and it certainly won’t be my last.
A very relaxed atmosphere and in a great location. As it is only a small group Sophie has time to spend with you individually as well as in a group. Sophie is very encouraging and willing to share her knowledge.
Would highly recommend.
