Nature in Needle Felt - Picture Workshop

Nature in Needle Felt - Picture Workshop

Burford, The Cotswolds in Oxfordshire

Make a realistic and lifelike needle felt picture of your favourite animal, wildflower or beautiful landscape at this great workshop. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.

You can choose to make whatever you like - even your beloved pet - and I’ll show you exactly how to recreate it in a perfect needle felt picture, framed and ready to hang pride of place when you get home. You’ll be amazed at how well you do, even if you’ve never felted before or think you’re not artistic.

Before you worry that you’re not good at drawing or painting let me reassure you that making a picture with wool fibre is much simpler than painting with oils and watercolours, but the results are just as striking and impressive. Don’t let this stop you having a go - I’m here to help.

Most people can’t believe how much detail you can achieve needle felting with wool and you’ll be amazed at how well you do.

You’ll make a needle felt picture that will fit into a 7” round frame ready for you to hang up somewhere special.

Bring a paper print out of your image that is no wider than about 7” (this is about an inch or two narrower than an A4 piece of paper]. You will use this print out to trace your image onto fabric to create your picture outline (I’ll show you how). This is the best option if you are not confident in drawing your picture accurately.

Or you can bring the image on your phone/tablet/laptop if you are happy to draw it free hand.

If you don’t have a printer I can print it for you and can help you with your drawing too. Don’t let this stop you having a go.

With a huge variety of colours provided for you to choose from on the day, you’ll be able to capture your image as true to life as possible down to the very last detail. I’ll be here to guide you step by step.

All other equipment's included, just bring your picture and enthusiasm and by the end of the day you’ll frame your masterpiece in an 7” wooden embroidery hoop.

Join me in the beautiful village of Burford, located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where I'll be waiting to welcome you to a delightful workshop in the very heart of this charming part of the world.

Workshops are held in Warwick Hall not far from Burford High Street. A newly refurbished and striking space with all the facilities you will need for the day. An old medieval building, Warwick Hall has been transformed into a wonderful modern facility, where the rooms are flooded with light and perfect for a craft workshop.

You'll receive plenty of close guidance throughout the workshop so that you leave with a picture that you are so proud of and can’t wait to hang as soon as you get home.

It’s a lovely way to spend the day. And afterwards, why not explore this gorgeous village which is a bustling hive of activity, medieval buildings, independent shops and plenty of places to get a great cup of tea and yummy slice of cake.

On arrival you'll be greeted a selection of morning teas or freshly ground coffee before we get started. I provide cordials and soft drinks throughout the day and you can bring snacks if you think you’ll get hungry.

There’s a cafe at Warwick Hall and so if you wanted to get a snack during the workshop or stay for lunch after, that would be a lovely thing to combine with the workshop.

I had a lovely day taking part in one of Sophie’s needle felting courses. It was my first time needle felting and Sophie has a great way of making you feel welcome and comfortable. She was sure we would all be able to produce an item that we could be proud of by the end of the day. And she was right. I was able, with lots of encouragement from Sophie to make a cat that does actually look like my cat Tipsy. Sophie takes you through all the techniques and processes, step by step. Adapting if need be to each persons individual project. I would definitely recommend Sophie’s felting courses to anyone wanting to give it a try. Overall, a fabulous day crafting and chatting to some lovely ladies on the course with me. Thanks Sophie.

A fun day spent in lovely serene surroundings. Sophie is an excellent teacher and nothing is too much trouble.
I have never done anything like this before and despite not being particularly artistically inclined found it very satisfying.
I can highly recommend Sophie's courses even if you carry it no further. It was lovely to meet different people and see how we all progressed over the day!
Thank you Sophie.

Had a fantastic day yesterday. Sophie is an incredible teacher who is very generous with her encouragement and in sharing her knowledge and tips. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and the day passed by in a flash. I can’t wait to come back and learn some more about felting in this lovely, welcoming setting.

Sophie is amazing! I’ve been on a couple of her courses and I have loved both of them. She is so clear in her explanations and encouraging throughout the day, I’ve learnt so so much! Her work is exquisite and she is so generous with her knowledge and time. I can’t wait to go back!

A very relaxed atmosphere and in a great location. As it is only a small group Sophie has time to spend with you individually as well as in a group.
Sophie is very encouraging and willing to share her knowledge.
Would highly recommend.

My daughter and I attended one of Sophie's courses a few weeks ago and had a brilliant time. My daughter had never needle felted before but is now completely hooked. (I already was.) Sophie is an excellent and patient teacher and begins by making everyone feel that they really can achieve what they want to. A very pleasant setting with a peaceful studio and a lovely garden.
I would recommend her courses without hesitation.
